The short answer
A translated email does not prove your checkout is local. A buyer can still see the wrong price, currency, product URL, shipping terms or payment method. Test the whole path for each locale: email block, product link, chosen market, checkout currency, shipping rate, shown payments and final payment status. Treat an unknown locale as a fallback case you test. It does not prove a customer's country.
Your email can be fluent Dutch and your product can look right. At checkout, the buyer may still see the wrong price, currency or delivery promise. This can come from a mismatch in the buyer profile, market setting, catalogue, shipping setup or payment eligibility.
What Shopify Markets with Klaviyo can localize
Klaviyo's Shopify Markets guidance says the integration can sync country-and-language catalogue data, including local titles, prices, currencies and URLs. You need Shopify Markets configured, a Shopify integration and the Sync Shopify Markets to Klaviyo setting enabled. The first sync of local catalogue data can take time.
A locale combines language and region, such as en-US or es-US. A Spanish-speaking person in the United States and a buyer in Spain can share a language while needing different currency, catalogue, shipping and payment paths. Do not use language alone as a country.
The email block you choose also changes the fallback you need to test:
- Smart Translations dynamic product block: matches product information to language and country, then uses the configured fallback catalogue locale when country is unknown. Test that fallback catalogue and a profile with unknown country.
- Localized static product block: uses recipient language and region at send time, then uses your Shopify store default market when recipient locale is unknown. Test that default market and the exact block setting.
- Manually selected localized product: uses the language and region selected in the block. Test price, URL, availability and currency for that chosen locale.
Unknown country and unknown locale are distinct fallbacks. For a dynamic block, configure and preview the fallback catalogue locale when country is unknown. For a localized static block, check that your store default market works when recipient locale is unknown. A default-market product can be technically valid and still be a poor commercial fit for the person receiving it. Do not infer country from language.
Local payments depend on eligibility
Country is only one part of whether a local method appears. Shopify's iDEAL | Wero documentation says the store must accept EUR, have the Netherlands as an active market, and serve customers in the Netherlands who pay in euros. The Shopify Payments account must pass identity verification, and the store must meet business-practice and storefront requirements, including an accessible store and legal notice. Shopify reviews eligibility and contacts the owner if activation is available.
Shopify says Klarna for Shopify Payments depends on the Shopify Payments region where your store is based, customer location and selected currency. Klarna makes eligibility decisions. A German buyer does not establish that your business is eligible. These pages cover Shopify Payments; another arrangement may work differently.

Order created is not always payment complete
For iDEAL | Wero, Shopify says an order can be created as Payment pending while the transaction finishes. Its guidance tells merchants to check payment status before fulfilling unpaid orders and to make sure apps and sales channels do the same. An order appearing in your China-side workflow should not silently approve personalisation, purchasing or dispatch. Use a tested status rule instead of manual guesswork for normal orders.
Preview the whole offer by market
Use declared test profiles, not assumptions about real buyers. Your pre-launch review can cover nl-NL, de-DE, es-ES, es-US, en-AU and an unknown locale. For every path, check:
- the product version, availability and selected market;
- currency, product price, shipping price and delivery promise;
- the product URL and locale-aware email block;
- the payment methods displayed for the qualifying customer path; and
- order and payment status before your fulfilment release condition runs.
Fix an obvious mismatch for everyone before you use a promotion to measure response. A later controlled test can tell you whether a more complete local offer changes profit after your direct costs. Click-through rate alone cannot show that.
The country-profit guide explains why your product does not have one universal margin: local price, payment, route, delivery and what happens after the parcel all change what remains. Confirm the approved product version, customer-ready pack and workable route alongside the market test. If payment fails, diagnose checkout before offering a recovery discount.
Questions to check
Can Klaviyo show different prices and product links by country?
Yes, once Shopify Markets is configured and synced to Klaviyo. The local catalogue can include titles, prices, currency and URLs by language-region combination. Read Klaviyo's Shopify Markets guide.
What happens when a recipient's locale is unknown?
Smart Translations dynamic blocks use the configured fallback catalogue locale when country is unknown. Localized static blocks use the Shopify default market when recipient locale is unknown. Test both. See Klaviyo's fallback guidance.
Can a local-payment order be fulfilled while pending?
Use the payment-status release rule you tested for your own integration. Shopify says iDEAL | Wero orders can be Payment pending while processing completes and tells apps and sales channels to check status. Read Shopify's guidance.
What this does not prove
Documentation was checked on 7 September 2026. This is not an account audit or a promise that a method will display for a particular buyer. Eligibility depends on the account and buyer conditions above. Klaviyo behaviour depends on your enabled settings, synced data and template configuration. If your complete journeys match but conversion remains weak, your offer or delivery promise may be uncompetitive. Re-test after a market, catalogue, payment, shipping or integration change.
