Inbound delay met an overseas return queue
A typhoon disrupted inbound stock for a seasonal pet and home-comfort range just as backorders needed replenishment. In another queue, dozens of parcels had accumulated in an overseas return flow and needed address decisions, repacking and new tracking. A custom-jewellery quote was also moving because its material choice changed both lead time and cost.
The visible symptom in every chat was delay, but the physical states were different. Stock had not reached the warehouse, returned parcels were already abroad and waiting for instructions, and the jewellery had not yet entered production at all.
Waiting without a decision would compound both queues
One confident recovery date would have been simple and mostly invented. Weather could move the inbound estimate again; return deadlines could expire while the team waited; and a material change could make the old jewellery quote meaningless. The seller needed to know what was merely waiting and what required action now.

That day affected inbound stock, including a seasonal product needed for backorders, and a separate batch of more than seventy returned parcels that required new packaging and a fresh tracking log.
The response is to identify the affected route, track the last confirmed handoff, and explain the revised expectation without inventing a recovery date. For custom jewellery, the same discipline applies when a material decision changes the price and lead time.

The disruption did not disappear, but it stopped being one undifferentiated promise to "chase everything".
