e.l.f. Fragrance: H&M Before POP on TikTok

3 min read
From fashion partner to POP. e.l.f.’s fragrance offers use different formats and announced channels.

e.l.f.'s POP fragrance mist and body cream each listed at US $13, following its fragrance collaboration with H&M. The first collection used names from its makeup range. The later one used a destination theme. If you follow the company's move into scent, you need both launches to understand its route.

Familiar makeup names became fragrance names

H&M's January notice described eau de parfum based on e.l.f.'s Power Grip, Halo Glow and Camo makeup lines. It announced availability in selected H&M stores globally and on hm.com, with each fragrance listed at US $29.99. H&M presented the partnership as e.l.f.'s first exploration into fragrance. H&M collaboration announcement.

Our reading: the collaboration posed a product question through familiar names and a fashion partner. If you know the makeup line, you can recognise its name without knowing the fragrance. H&M's involvement also supplied a distinct retail setting for that introduction.

Those are features of the proposed offer, not proof that the recognition converted into sales. The names could have attracted existing e.l.f. followers, H&M shoppers curious about a collaboration, or buyers interested primarily in scent. You cannot tell which audience carried the collection without evidence about its buyers. The partnership matters because it makes the later announcement a continuation to investigate, rather than an isolated launch.

POP changed the story and the route to market

October's POP: Tromsø collection features Spicy Bundt Nice mist and body cream. POP announcement.

TikTok Shop US launched first. e.l.f. announced its US and UK websites and TikTok Shop UK and Germany next, followed by scheduled Amazon availability in the US, UK, Germany and Canada. POP channel timetable.

Our reading: POP raises the question of how e.l.f. can explain an ongoing fragrance identity through its own collection. The destination theme could provide a connection between products without relying on a makeup franchise name. TikTok-first could give the launch a place to tell that story before availability broadens. But a platform promotion or ordinary operational scheduling could explain the same order. Neither the timing nor the earlier partnership establishes that e.l.f. learned a particular lesson and applied it successfully.

When you compare the prices, you are looking at different offers: eau de parfum in the collaboration, and mist or body cream in POP. They cannot support a price-cut claim, a volume-equivalent value comparison or a conclusion about margin. For your sourcing and shipping work, that distinction matters to what your price must cover. A lower listed price can leave less room for acquisition, fulfilment and returns, depending on costs and repeat demand; these releases do not supply those inputs.

The missing evidence is between the launches

Neither supplied announcement reports channel-level orders, repeat purchases, buyer overlap, acquisition costs or profit after fulfilment costs. We also lack the reason for the channel spacing and independent confirmation of current Amazon listings. The H&M announcement does not establish that its collection succeeded, and the POP announcement does not demonstrate that the collaboration validated the later launch.

The useful follow-up is whether buyers carry across from the collaboration into POP, or whether POP finds a different audience that returns beyond the holiday drop. Either outcome would deepen this company story. For now, the announcements show a route, while its commercial significance remains open.
