A Quiet Day, and Writing Out the Whole Story for One Client

Slow day overall — no surprise, with a lot of our US-facing clients offline for the holiday. Mostly routine stuff: tracking updates, address corrections, a few standard "can you check on this order" messages that get resolved in a couple of lines.

The one thing that took real time today was following up properly on yesterday's tense pricing conversation. Rather than leave it simmering, we sat down and wrote out the full picture for that client: how their order volume had grown from a few hundred a day to well over a thousand in just a few weeks, why we'd been ordering stock in smaller batches rather than committing to one huge bulk order early on, and what was actually driving the timing of when a bulk discount could kick in. It's easy to forget, when you're moving fast, that the person on the other end is also trying to manage real risk — stock-outs, quality control, cash flow — not just trying to be difficult. Laying it all out plainly seemed to help more than another round of back-and-forth would have.

We also spent time exploring whether a European warehouse setup made sense for that same client going forward — worth it for heavier items, less clear-cut for lighter ones once you factor in the picking fees and the challenge of pre-stocking the right colors in the right quantities. No decision yet, just the kind of forward-looking conversation that's easier to have on a quiet day than a chaotic one.

Some days are about racing to keep up. Today was about slowing down enough to actually explain ourselves properly, which honestly doesn't happen often enough.
